What’s The Best Centrifugal Juicer?

Centrifugal Juicers: Your Fast-Track To Fresh Juice

Work Life Balance Building Blocks

Centrifugal juicers are the most popular type of juicer, found in most kitchen small appliance retail stores, both on the high street and online. They represent a great introduction to the health benefits of juicing. In a busy household, or where time is short, a centrifugal model can be the ideal long term juicing choice. Striking the right life balance amidst the relentless hustle of modern life can be a challenge and we can’t always fit everything in that we’d like. When time is of the essence, the speed and convenience of a centrifugal juicer can help you to place wellbeing in its proper place: as the foundation of your pyramid of priorities.

Choose Wisely

The trusty centrifugal juicer is a juicing stalwart but they are not all created equal. It’s crucial to make a well-informed choice to ensure you extract the most from your juicing experience. Here’s an overview of the pros and cons, so you can decide if a centrifugal is right for you, and then pick the perfect juicing partner:

Pros:

Speed: Centrifugal juicers are fast. They can rapidly juice a variety of fruits and vegetables, making them a great choice for families and people with busy schedules. In terms of health benefits they can be a lifeline for those racing against the clock and juggling competing priorities. To Do List

Ease of Use: These juicers are very easy to operate with a simple assembly process. You just feed the ingredients through a wide feeding chute, and the machine does the rest. The juice starts to flow the second you start.

Price: Centrifugal juicers are often significantly more affordable than other types of juicers, such as cold press or masticating juicers. Their cost-effective entry point ensures that the pursuit of a healthier lifestyle doesn’t burden your wallet, and for many, these juicers are all they’ll ever need.

Great For Hard Ingredients: When it comes to root vegetables, apples, and other firm ingredients, a good centrifugal juicer can often outperform its pricier counterparts in terms of quantity of juice extracted. The benefits of celery juice are front and centre in many juicing minds: make no mistake, the centrifugal format means minimum effort when prepping this powerhouse of nutrition.

Cleaning: They are generally not too difficult to clean because they have fewer parts compared to other types of juicers. The parts that need cleaning are often dishwasher safe, although it’s fair to say that almost all juicers will require hand scrubbing of the filter screen.

Convenience: The wide feeding chute on most centrifugal juicers means you don’t have to spend as much time on ingredient prep. No more need to meticulously chop your produce into tiny pieces. Juicing becomes a seamless part of your day.

Cons:

Nutrient Loss: Centrifugal juicers generate heat and expose the ingredients to oxygen during the juicing process, causing nutrient degradation. Just kidding! This popular juicing myth is absolute twaddle, but see the next point.

Quality of Juice: The high-speed spinning blades can create a foamy juice and may also result in a less thorough extraction from some ingredients, particularly leafy greens and soft berries (we’d say that eating berries, or putting them in a blended smoothie, is probably better than juicing these expensive ingredients in any type of juicer). Good centrifugals offer a foam separating jug in case you find that off-putting. We just stir the foam back into the juice.

Noise: Centrifugal juicers are typically noisier than other types of juicers due to the high-speed motor and the spinning blade as it shreds ingredients. Not an issue for most people but not ideal for midnight juicing!

Waste: Centrifugal juicers produce a bit more waste with berries and leafy greens when compared to masticating juicers, but for most other ingredients the waste is about the same. Think of the pulp waste from any juicer as a tribute to the compost bin!

Shorter Juice Shelf Life: Due to the high speed blade having a slightly aerating effect on the juice, juices made with centrifugal juicers are best consumed fresh – within a few hours – to protect their nutritional value from oxidation. This is also when the juice from any type of juicer is at its absolute vibrant peak.

Unlocking the Centrifugal Juicer Secret: Quality Matters

Sage Nutri Juicer Cold XL With Fruit And Juice

The market is saturated with low-quality, subpar juicers (but there are none on our site!). If you are looking at something under £100 from a weird sounding brand you’ve never heard of, be wary. But what makes a good centrifugal?

Power: To take full advantage of the speed capability of a centrifugal juicer you don’t want a motor that bogs down with that depressing sound of deceleration when you ask it to keep up. Most now have an XL feed chute that will take whole apples or handfuls of produce, so you want a powerful motor that can cope when you push down on a chunk of ingredients. Motors that slow down take longer to juice, obviously, but if the speed reduces dramatically, so does the efficiency of the extraction.

There’s a caveat here because many centrifugal models have multiple speed settings – this is because softer ingredients yield more juice at a slightly lower speed than hard ones and multi speed juicers can offer a slight advantage here. But a low powered juicer will groan and complain, slowing down to a speed way lower than what’s optimum.

Precision: We’re talking build quality and solid assembly. As the juice is extracted, the shredded pulp has to pass through a small gap at the bottom of the feed chute before being spun at high speed around the conical filter screen, which uses centrifugal force to separate the juice. Any movement in the juicer top parts can cause this gap to fluctuate, allowing slivers of un-shredded produce to pass through, before the blade teeth get a chance to do their job. Wobbly bits mean more waste! The whole assembly needs to sit firm on the motor base when clamped, with none of the flex seen in some cheap examples.

Prettiness: This also has a lot to do with build quality. Use of premium materials like stainless steel and die cast aluminium for the juicer exterior can go hand in hand with great looks on your kitchen worktop and let’s face it, most of us don’t want cheap looking plasticky appliances adorning our kitchen. A good looking juicer is a source of aesthetic satisfaction.

Choosing Your Centrifugal Juicer

We painstakingly test and evaluate any product before it is allowed in our range, which is why you won’t see a huge variety of similar products on our site. We pick the best and reject the rest. That said, it’s logical to cater for a number of price points if we can do so without compromising our minimum standard of user friendliness and performance, so these centrifugal juicer recommendations are ordered in terms of budget, from entry level to premium.

Mid Price Centrifugal Juicer

Sage Nutri Juicer Cold Plus

Splash a little more cash and you add a slightly more premium feel with this model, including a die cast, lacquered, heavy duty motor base with elegant curves that give a bit more of a planted platform to work from. What is the Sage ‘cold spin technology’ with this juicer you may ask? Smoke and mirrors we say. But we forgive any centrifugal juicer brand for using marketing speak to push back against the egregious but highly popular load of old codswallop claim that centrifugals destroy enzymes with heat. They don’t.

Premium Centrifugal Juicer

Sage Nutri Juicer Cold XL

More power and even more premium materials. The flagship centrifugal juicer from Sage includes a fully stainless juicing bowl, an even wider stainless feed chute, and a polished clamping mechanism that feels even more robust, while adding to its stunning good looks. The commercial grade variable speed motor will offer many years of hassle free service. The juicer for those who need to ‘go big or go home’!

Honourable Mention

Sage 3X Bluicer Pro

It would be a bit remiss to fail to include Sage’s hybrid juicer/blender combo in this article. 2 in 1 machines often offer a compromise somewhere in their functionality but not The Sage Bluicer. By using one base you get more space, but two machines, with no loss of performance. The added automated blending cycles and a premium stainless finish offers much more than just a stand alone centrifugal juicer, if your pockets are a little deeper.

In the pursuit of optimum health, a good centrifugal juicer serves you faithfully without compromising the need to balance time constraints. We hope these insights will help you to integrate even better nutrition into your daily routine, however busy, so that you quickly feel the benefits.
