In the EVO820 Kuvings have produced a stunning example of how to get cold press juicer design just right. The performance with all juicing ingredients is the best we have seen from any slow juicer from the leading manufacturers, with higher juice yields and less pulp getting into the juice. But there’s a lot more that sets the Kuvings Evolution Cold Press Juicer in a class of its own.
With an even larger feed chute than previous wide mouth designs, the new ‘flip gate’ lid overcomes the need to use a pusher with whole apples and other large ingredients. Earlier designs had a protruding ‘fin’ that you would have to push the apples past lower down inside the tube. The fin had to be there for safety reasons in the old models, just as the chute itself had to be taller, to prevent children accidentally getting their hands in the workings during juicing. The flip gate lid simply swings back and forth on a hinge and drops whole apples and other ingredients straight into the path of the juicing auger, but it prevents anyone from getting their hands into the feed tube. There’s also an aperture in the top of the flip gate for feeding in whole carrots and leafy greens when you are not using it to feed in whole or large pieces of fruit or veg. With the flip gate lid offering an even bigger aperture, it will take larger apples and bigger pieces of other ingredients which means less prep time, and it also makes it easier to feed all ingredients into the juicer.
It’s arguable that the flip gate lid alone makes the EVO820 worthy of its heftier price tag because of the improvement to the juicing experience but a lot of thought has gone into the rest of the design. Rightly so, because this is the premium model of household use juicer, only equalled in features by Kuvings much more expensive commercial model. The textured leather style motor base oozes sophistication and the wrap around design cradles the juicing assembly elegantly, presenting clean outlines and a pleasing symmetry. The four point anchor system in the juicing drum makes for a rock solid connection to the motor. They’ve made cleaning even easier with the open top pulp outlet. There’s also an optional citrus attachment that gets rid of the need for a separate citrus juicer. This is a big plus point. The best quality juicing oranges are a pain to peel, but peeling is necessary if you want to feed them into a fruit and vegetable juicer, because of the bitter peel oils. The citrus module converts the EVO820 into a traditional citrus juicer where peeling becomes unnecessary – you simply cut your citrus fruit in half and press them down onto the reaming cone, which turns at a finger friendly 60rpm.
The EVO820 has a lot to live up to with its premium price tag. We think it justifies the investment, both with its innovative feature list and with the legendary quality and durability we’ve come to know from the Kuvings brand. It’s simply the best wide mouth slow juicer money can buy.
